I didn’t stray far from home for this weeks “Fitspiration”!! Yes this week it’s Dave’s turn to inspire you all. Here’s what he had to say.
1:What is your weekly fitness routine like?
I play gaelic football so I like to train for strength, speed and endurance. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t train aesthetically as well, who doesn’t want to look good on the beach! I train between 8-10 times per week. Here’s my breakdown:
3 x 90 minute GAA skill and Endurance Sessions
3-4 x 60 minute Strength and Explosive Power Weight Sessions
2 x 60 minute Yoga / Flexibility Sessions (to stay injury free)
2: What are your favourite exercises?
I have a love/hate relationship with squats, deadlifts, hang cleans and prowler work. These compound exercise dramatically improve speed, strength and fitness when performed with good technique. But they ain’t fun!
3: What are your top three workout tips?
1) Train high
2) Train low
3) Rest
When you’re training, train high and intense but remember you cant always train at that intensity so have light sessions too like yoga or a de-load weight training week. Rest is so important, studies have shown people had a higher body fat% when they had less than eight hours sleep compared to those who got eight hours or more. Cravings were also greater with less sleep.
4: What’s your favourite Fit Food?
I would have to say almond butter and apple slices, great for healthy fats and protein!
5: Who is your personal “Fitspiration”?
For size and shape I’d have to say Chris Hemsworth (Thor) he was a tank but he could still move. For sport Micheal Dara Mcauley (Dublin footballer) so explosive and ridiculously fit, he covers every blade of grass on the football pitch!
